Antique Hamadan Region Village Rug, Classic Bijar Design, Circa 1900-20.

Description

Size: 6ft 3in x 3ft 7in (190 x 109cm).

Antique rug from the Greater Hamadan region of North West Persia, with a medallion design similar to those found on Bijar rugs.

Circa 1900-20.

The rug originates from one of the many 100's of small villages in the Greater Hamadan region, the weavers are mainly Kurds. This good example has a central medallion in dark indigo blue on a soft madder red field. The corners are in light indigo blue with a leaf border on an ivory ground framing the rug. Note the yellow 'dragons' in each corner.

The rug is thought to originate from the North West or the Mehraban district or west Khamseh district, both close to the town of Bijar. The design is very reminiscent to those found on early Bijar rugs. A really pleasing village weaving.

The rug is in good condition with even wear and low pile.

The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.

The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use.
