Georgian kneehole desks emerged during the 18th century, characterised by a central recessed cupboard flanked by columns of small drawers, reflecting classical proportions and refined craftsmanship.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or oak timbers with fine veneer work, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers and secondary woods such as pine or oak for interior linings.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-forged iron or brass fixings, irregular dovetails cut by hand, shrinkage cracks in the timber, and natural wax patination built up over centuries of use.

Pairing historical timber furniture with contemporary seating and minimalist artwork creates a balanced interior, allowing the rich grain and traditional craftsmanship to stand out as a focal point.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the finish.
