FAQs

Brass beds gained immense popularity during the Victorian era, following advancements in metallurgy and electroplating that allowed for more durable and affordable production of brass-coated iron and solid brass frames.

These beds typically feature either solid brass or a heavy iron core clad in a thick sheet of brass, assembled using threaded joints, heavy-duty side rails, and decorative cast-brass finials and mountings.

Authentic pieces often show signs of age such as minor surface oxidisation, hand-finished joints, substantial weight due to iron cores, and makers marks or stamps on the iron side rails.

A brass bed serves as a striking focal point and can be balanced in a modern room by pairing it with neutral linens, minimalist bedside tables, and contrasting textural elements to soften the metallic finish.

Maintain brass by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can strip the protective lacquer or vintage patina, preserving the natural oxidisation.
