FAQs

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading, and cleaning surfaces gently with specialized conservation tools.

Displaying historical artwork creates a focal point when contrasted against minimalist modern walls or paired with traditional architectural elements to add depth and character to a room.

Authenticity is determined by examining the canvas weave, craquelure patterns in the oil paint, stretcher frame construction, and the presence of historical pigments or frame hallmarks indicative of the era.

These works are typically created using artist-grade oil pigments applied to stretched linen or cotton canvas, housed within hand-carved and gilded wooden frames often reinforced with gesso.

Nineteenth-century portraiture transitioned from formal neoclassical and romantic academic traditions towards more naturalistic and psychological depictions of subjects, reflecting broader shifts in European art movements.
