Size: 17ft 1in x 5ft 3in (520 x 160cm).

Antique Kurdish kelleh carpet or large runner with all over boteh design.

Circa 1900.

The carpet has a all over floral boteh design on a dark indigo blue ground, the boteh are beautifully drawn with small flowering shrubs inside each boteh. The multiple floral borders frame the carpet well and give it a light feel. This is a superb carpet that would grace any country house.

The carpet is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile.

The carpet is suitable for normal domestic use.

The carpet has been hand washed and is ready for use.

A Kelleh is a traditional format of Oriental carpet historically woven in Persia and Kurdistan, characterised by a long yet relatively wide proportion suited for large hallways or central floor spaces.

These carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun sheep wool for both the pile and the warp-and-weft foundation, colored with dyes derived from natural plant and mineral sources.

Authentic pieces feature hand-tied knots visible on the underside, subtle variations in weave density, natural colour abrash throughout the pile, and traditional regional motifs such as repeating boteh shapes.
