Description

Lovely small Austrian cold painted bronze statue of a Parrot,c1900. Highly decorative it is well cast with great detail to the feathers, features etc. The paint is still vibrant with shades of green, brown, yellow. I cannot see a makers mark ,but very much in the style of Bergmann. Overall condition is good in line with age and use with only minor surface wear/rubbing. Cold-painted bronzes are cast metal sculptures decorated with layers of oil paint or lacquer that are allowed to air dry rather than being fired in a kiln. This technique, made famous by Viennese foundries around 1900, allowed artists to create detailed polychrome finishes on animal and figurative subjects.
