It is a hand-knotted textile traditionally crafted by Baluch and Timuri nomadic tribes inhabiting the borderlands of Iran, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan, typically featuring a distinctive mihrab design used for daily prayers.

Authentic pieces are constructed entirely from hand-spun wool, utilizing natural dyes derived from plants, roots, and minerals for the pile, warp, and weft, often woven on horizontal ground looms.

Authentication involves examining the natural abrash in the wool, the use of organic dyes that exhibit subtle colour variations, asymmetrical knotting structures, and the presence of goat hair or camel hair in the selvedges.

These textiles serve as focal points when displayed on hardwood floors, layered over larger neutral jute carpets, or mounted on walls as textile art to add rich texture and historical depth to a space.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without the beater bar, keeping the textile out of direct sunlight to prevent dye degradation, and professional washing by a specialist in antique oriental carpets.
