We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian pastoral artwork typically depicts idealized countryside scenes, livestock, and rural labour, reflecting a cultural nostalgia for natural landscapes during an era of rapid industrialisation.

Artworks from this period were primarily painted using oil-based pigments applied to stretched linen canvas or wooden panels, presented within carved or moulded wood frames layered with plaster composition and gold leaf.

Authenticity is assessed through visible age indicators, such as natural paint craquelure, period-accurate wood stretchers or backing boards, artist signatures, and characteristic oxidisation on the canvas reverse.

Framed artwork pairs can be hung symmetrically above a sideboard, console table, or fireplace mantel to create balanced focal points in traditional or contemporary schemes.

Paintings should be kept away from direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Clean frames gently with a soft dry brush and consult a professional conservator for canvas cleaning or restoration.
