In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Wellington chest is a tall, narrow chest of drawers named after the First Duke of Wellington following his victory at Waterloo in 1815. It typically features a vertical flight of drawers secured by a hinged side flap or pilaster that locks over the drawer edges to keep them closed during transport.

Victorian Wellington chests were predominantly constructed using solid timber and fine wood veneers, with mahogany, walnut, and rosewood being the most common. Secondary timbers like pine or oak were used for drawer linings, complemented by brass handles and lock plates.

Authentic pieces feature a working side locking flap hinged to one side of the carcass that covers the right hand edge of the drawer fronts. They typically possess hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original brass locks, and tall, narrow proportions mounted on a solid plinth base.

Due to their narrow footprint and vertical height, Wellington chests are ideal for alcoves, hallways, or dressing areas where floor space is limited. Pairing them symmetrically on either side of a bed or fireplace adds architectural structure to modern living spaces.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth along the grain line. Apply a quality beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the timber patina, and keep the furniture away from direct heat sources or damp environments to prevent wood movement and veneer lifting.
