A beautifully worked subject of a small boy, signed and dated by Bethia Clarke 04. Bethia Mary Clarke was born in 1867 at Blackheath London, and grew up in Hastings. She studied art in Westminster, Paris and at Staples also in France. Clarke loved portrait work in oil and pastel. She was a regular exhibitor at both the RA and the Royal society of British Artists in London, along with the royal Glasgow institute of the Fine Arts. Clarke showed some 48 works with the society of women artists and was elected a full member of that society in 1950.Clarke died in Kensington in 1959. Some slight foxing and glass is dusty behind, didn''t want to take back off or disturb the original frame. None of this detracts from the overall appearance of the picture. Mounted in a beautiful original art''s and crafts gilded frame. Such a wonderful piece, small amount of damage to frame ,as shown in pictures. 27 inches square. Delivery to UK mainland included in price. thanks for looking.
