Description

A highly unusual and original oak roll top desk from the Edwardian period. The central worktop section swivels and turns to reveal a purpose built compartment for your typewriter. When closed it offers up as a normal flat desk top work surface. The rest of the interior is a very good selection of drawer, pigeon holes and pen slides. All the exterior to the desk are fielded which nearly always equates to superior quality and the whole of the finish has been sympathetically restored to it's now super condition. When the tambour (roll) is down it automatically locks all the side drawers including the double file drawer to the bottom right. The lock is working and we have provided a spare key. In the main roll top desks can have one major problem, that being the deterioration of the linen backed tambour. Over the period of time pushed and pulled for over 100 years the linen and animal glue gives way and split leaving the tambour inoperable. The this end even if apparently good condition we at least always strengthen the tambour and in most cases completely re-back it. Giving peace of mind for decades to come. This is not a simple nor quick task even for a professional restorer would need a little advice on their first attempt. Definitely not a DIY job. Most roll top desks break down into three main parts and will go through even the tightest of doorways. The typewriter you see on the photographs is a very clean Imperial model and of the early 20th century complete with solid case cover and will come with this desk.
