In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
There is a raised gallery along the back with two small drawers connected by a shaped shelf. The top of the desk has a good quality deep blue writing surface and the whole piece stands on castors.
It is an excellent quality piece with dovetailed drawers and nicely finished moulding that continues on all 4 sides of the desk, meaning the back looks nicely finished so it could be used as a freestanding piece as well as against a wall.
The desk is in excellent condition for its age and has been well looked after. The walnut has a nice warm colour and a lovely rich patina and the drawers open well. The inside of the drawers are generally clean and tidy with just some minor old marks. There are some normal signs of age and use, some minor knocks and light surface marks and some ink stains but nothing untoward or detrimental. The rear panels of the desk have minor shrinkage splits which have been repaired. The desk has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
