We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Coaching art focuses on horse-drawn transportation, specifically stagecoaches and Royal Mail carriages, set against rural landscapes. Popularised in the late 18th and 19th centuries, these paintings depict the movement, speed, and social history of British travel prior to the widespread expansion of the railway.

Paintings from this era were primarily executed in oil on stretched linen canvas or wood panels. Frames were typically crafted from wooden mouldings finished with plaster or composition ornament and hand-applied gold leaf, known as giltwood.

Authentic pieces generally display natural age phenomena, such as fine surface cracking termed craquelure, darkening or yellowing of historic varnish, and visible oxidation or patina on the back of the canvas and wooden stretcher bars. Frame backs often show hand-cut construction marks and age-related wear.

A classic equestrian or coaching oil painting works well as a focal point above a mantelpiece or sideboard. Pairing traditional gilded frames with muted contemporary colour schemes or dark academia interiors creates an engaging contrast between historic subject matter and modern decor.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, excess moisture, and direct heat sources. Dust the frame gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding liquids or chemical cleaners which can strip gold leaf or damage the varnish layer.
