Antique large quality Oriental Japanese chinese bronze champleve enamel Jardiniere planter bowl C1920.

Would look amazing in the right location. Rare large size and design.

Overall maximum dimensions: 33cm diameter (40cm including feet) x 30cm high. 30cm diameter mouth. Weighs 5.6Kg.

In very good antique condition, with minor historic knocks, marks and repairs as is typical, nothing bad. Some minor pitting/losses to the enamel, which again is typical, possibly from when it was made. Designed for use with a plant pot inserted (large circular hole in the bottom from manufacture)

Champleve is a decorative technique where carved or cast recesses in a metal surface are filled with vitreous enamel paste and fired. In late Edo and Meiji period Japan, craftsmen adapted this method to embellish bronze vessels with intricate, multi-coloured geometric and archaistic patterns.

These planters were typically cast from heavy bronze alloy and decorated with vitreous glass enamel powders. The enamel was fused into pre-formed cells in the metal body before being polished flush with the bronze surface.
