Description
A great example of a 19th Century walnut and mahogany bureau plat by Mercier Frères. The top is banded with an ebonised panel, as are the drawers below. Having a fabulous original tooled leather inset writing surface with pull out slides on either side and three drawers to the front having ring pull handles. The curvaceous end supports are joined by supports shaped like Egyptian mummy sarcophaguses, and a single stretcher. Standing on squashed bun feet. The firm of Mercier Frères Décoration was a furniture and tapestry making firm in the 19th Century in France located at 100, Faubourg Saint-Antoine in Paris. It was founded in 1828 by Claude Mercier and participated in most of the major exhibitions of the late 19th Century. Internal Ref: 2820
