Antique Nain learning rug, very fine lambs wool with silk high lights on a cotton foundation.
Circa 1900.
The rug clearly shows the progress of a young weaver learning the design, at the lower end the design shows many errors, as the rug progresses the weave tightens and the design becomes more accurate and competent. The lower end is 107cm wide and the top end is 92cm wide.
The rug only has the main border, with pairs of cat like animals; the improvement of the skill of the weaver can clearly be seen as the drawing of the cats improves.
The rug is in excellent condition with very slight wear and good pile, and has recently been hand washed.
The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
The rug is ready for use or display. This is a rare survivor that clearly shows the learning process of a young weaver, a true collectors item.
