Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These 1920 garden planters take the form of cylindrical zinc dolly tubs in a rustic utility style, finished in weathered grey galvanised iron. Each planter displays a corrugated ribbed body with vertical fluting, a rolled rim edge, and a central chevron pressed pattern encircling the exterior. The metal shows a dull matte metallic surface, gentle oxidisation patches, and minor surface dents accumulated over time. Each piece measures 52 cm high, 52 cm wide, and 52 cm deep. In a contemporary home, these versatile containers find practical application beside the front door, on a patio, or within a conservatory to house structural plants, evergreens, or floral arrangements. Their robust construction suits outdoor garden settings while lending an industrial farmhouse aesthetic to entranceways, boot rooms, or garden rooms.

FAQs

A dolly tub is a large cylindrical container, historically made from galvanised sheet metal or zinc, used for washing clothes in nineteenth and early twentieth-century households alongside a wooden dolly agitator tool.

Traditional dolly tubs are constructed from corrugated galvanised iron or sheet zinc, featuring pressed ribbed walls for structural strength and corrosion resistance.

Authentic pieces feature vertical or chevron-patterned corrugated ribbing, rolled rim edges, welded or riveted seams along the body, and natural surface oxidisation or patina from utility use.

Dolly tubs are frequently repurposed as large outdoor garden planters, container tree pots, log baskets beside open fireplaces, or umbrella stands in entryways.

When using a dolly tub as a planter, drill drainage holes in the base and line the interior. Clean the exterior using mild soapy water and soft brushes, avoiding harsh chemicals to protect the natural weathered patina.
