These two Yoruba tribal art sculptures depict a male and female figure seated on low stools and holding ritual objects. Both pieces date to 1890 and belong to the carved wood category, finished in a dark brown tone with visible surface wear and aged patination. The figures display intricate hand-carved details including elaborate coiffures, almond eyes, seated postures, and facial scarification. The male figure wears a distinct ridged hat and holds a small head and cylindrical item, while the female features long braided hair falling down her back, ringed neck details, and holds a bottle-like vessel. Each sculpture measures 22.5 cm high, 7 cm wide, and 8 cm deep. These items suit placement on a sideboard top in a living area or study, adding authentic traditional African craftsmanship to a room's decor.

Yoruba carved wooden figures traditionally serve ceremonial, spiritual, or ancestral roles within West African communities, often representing deities, ancestors, or sacred twin spirits known as Ere Ibeji.

These sculptures were carved from single blocks of local hardwoods using adzes and chisels, often finished with natural pigments, kaolin, or organic oils to achieve a dark, protective patina.

Authentic pieces display characteristic stylistic features such as elongated torsos, almond-shaped eyes, elaborate coiffures, and visible surface wear from ritual handling and age.

Displaying wooden figurines on a minimalist sideboard, shelf, or console table creates a striking sculptural focal point that adds organic texture and cultural depth to modern spaces.

Keep wood figures away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent cracking, dusting gently with a soft dry brush without applying harsh chemicals or water.
