19th C. Russian Bronze & Enamel Folding Triptych or travel icon.

This is a nice bronze & enamel folding triptych/travel icon depicting scenes of the life of Christ from

the first quarter of the 19th century.

When folded the front of the triptych is decorated with a seal depicting the holy cross on mount Golgotha and Jerusalem

on the background, at the top of the triptych are two lugs to attach a cord or ribbon for wearing.

The measurements are: (when folded) approx. 5.5cm x 5.5cm - (unfolded) approx. 15.5cm x 5.5cm

This nineteenth-century Russian Orthodox folding triptych travel icon is cast in dark bronze with remnants of blue enamel fill within the relief panels. The three-panel hinged design opens to display detailed relief saint depictions and scenes from the life of Christ, bordered by simple raised mouldings and fitted with two suspension loops at the top.
