Castleforge Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1860s.
This opens to reveal a lovely maple interior with two short drawers above a false long drawer (which is double fronted). All have small mahogany turned knobs and one of the knobs is in fact a secret catch releasing a small drawer to the right hand side which also turns at right angles to the desk. Below the secret drawer on the right side of the desk are a further four drawers all of which are mahogany lined and with original knob handles. To the other side are a set of false drawer fronts. The writing slope is supported on lovely barley twist turnings with panel to the front and stands on turned bun feet on castors.
A lovely quality victorian walnut davenport with a lovely deep colour, grain and patination to the walnut oozing the charm and character of the period.
