Royal Doulton Gnomes series ware dinner plate, designed by Charles Noke, pattern number D4697, circa 1934
A deep blue ground, a large tree trunk with six gnomes peeping out behind the roots, with gilt cobweb highlights.
10.25'' or 259mm diameter, weights 620 grams.

In excellent bright sound condition with no damage or repair, hard vitreous pottery with no crazing.

Often referred to as the Doulton version of Wedgwood’s famous Fairyland Lustreware,
the Gnomes pattern is derived from drawings by the great illustrator Arthur Rackham for Peter Pan.
The designer is of Charles Noke, then Art Director at Doulton’s Burslem factory.
