This late Victorian miniature barograph dates to 1920 in the style of a gentleman's library accessory. The instrument is made from warm brown mahogany with brass fittings, glass panels, steel components, and a nickel-plated carrying handle. The glazed front window reveals a revolving chart drum, aneroid capsules, and a recording arm with a fine stylus. The rectangular wooden case has moulded framing around the viewing window and rests upon a simple stepped plinth base, with a hinged bottom section secured by metal catches. It measures 13 cm high, 19 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. Placed on an office desk or study bookshelf, it adds functional scientific interest and traditional character to a room interior today.

A barograph is a scientific recording barometer that continuously measures and plots atmospheric pressure changes over time onto a paper chart mounted on a revolving drum.

These instruments typically consist of a clockwork-driven brass mechanism, a stack of metallic aneroid capsules, and a glazed hardwood case made from mahogany, walnut, or oak.

Authentic period barographs feature precision brass clockwork, stamped maker marks or serial numbers on the metalwork, and hand-fitted glass panels within a solid timber frame.

Position the instrument on an executive office desk, library bookshelf, or fireplace mantel to introduce a historical and technical focal point into traditional or contemporary spaces.

Display the unit away from direct heat and damp environments, wipe the glass panels clean with a microfiber cloth, and carefully dust the brass mechanism without applying pressure to the recording arm.
