Description:

This is a fine quality antique Art Deco figured walnut serpentine cloud shaped pedestal desk, with a glass top, circa 1930, in excellent condition. The desk boasts a classic “skyscraper” design, with a stepped serpentine shaped top section above two bow shaped pedestals. The top of the desk features stunning quality figured walnut, mirror-matched veneers, with a shaped removable glass top. The top section consists of three serpentine shaped drawers above a bank of three bowed drawers in each pedestal, with a small gallery upstand to the rear of the desk. The desk retains its original walnut knobs and handles. The pedestals sit on elegant recessed art deco curved plinths. This desk boasts classic Art Deco styling in the overall design of the curved corners, clean lines to the tops, the handles and the feet. The drawers feature sycamore linings. This is a single piece desk. It is unusual to see of a desk of this design and shape in the marketplace.

Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique Art Deco figured walnut serpentine cloud shaped pedestal desk, with a glass top, circa 1930, in excellent condition, which has been adapted from a dressing table. The desk has been French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are of an excellent standard. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and insides of drawers, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no stains or scratches to the top of the desk. The drawers retain their original handles. The drawers also feature dovetail construction, hardwood interiors and quarter beading, closing flush to the frame. This is a single piece desk; it does not dismantle into sections. The desk boasts a mellow walnut colour. It has a fantastic colour and patinaton; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This item is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
