An highly unusual and quite beautiful, antique Persian Kelleh format carpet.
A very heavy piece, like a Bijar, Persian knotted with cotton warps.
Allover Flowers and leaves with glorious natural dyes on navy ground.
The exact attribution for this spectacular carpet is unknown, but Joshaghan, Bijar and Bibikibad have all been suggested.
The intense dyes, high quality weave and shape of the carpet suggest a date of at least mid 19th century or before.
Given the early dating the piece remains in extraordinary condition, good pile, with all original ends and sides and little or no repair.
It has just been deep cleaned.
Circa 1850.
