Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Edwardian inlaid mahogany purdonium / fall front coal scuttle bin, circa 1910, in excellent original condition. The purdonium features a shaped, moulded & satinwood string inlaid gallery upstand, above a string inlaid & crossbanded top. Below, is a panelled fall front, which boasts two stages of cross banding, bounded with string inlay, and central fan-shaped marquetry inlay. The fall also retains the original steel foliate handle, with further foliate carrying handles on either side. The fall opens to reveal a spacious interior, which retains the original removable tin interior container. The coal scuttle rests on a moulded plinth, with shaped frieze. This coal scuttle is solid in joint and ready to use.

Dimensions:
Height = 63.6cm or 25” or 2ft 1”
Width = 40.5cm or 16” or 1ft 4”
Depth (including handle) = 35cm or 13¾” or 1ft 1¾”
Condition Report:
This antique Edwardian mahogany purdonium / coal scuttle is in excellent original condition, which is commensurate with its age. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and interior, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There is no missing inlay and purdonium retains the origin tin bin. The purdonium has been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. This item is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
