Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

British sporting art from the 19th century focuses on field sports, fox hunting, horse racing, and pastoral equestrian life. Painters of this genre emphasized detailed anatomy, coat textures, and atmospheric English rural settings.

These artworks were typically executed using oil pigments applied to stretched linen or cotton canvas. Frames were constructed from timber with plaster or composition mouldings finished in water-gilded or oil-gilded gold leaf.

Authentic period oil paintings exhibit natural age-related craquelure across the paint layer, darkening or oxidisation of original varnishes on the reverse, and period-correct stretcher bars with iron or brass tacks.

A Victorian sporting painting can be placed above a fireplace mantelpiece, hung centrally over a sideboard, or incorporated into a curated gallery wall to add historical depth to contemporary spaces.

Dust the surface lightly with a dry, ultra-soft microfibre brush without applying pressure. Avoid using liquid cleansers or polish, and display the painting away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and heat sources.
