A superb quality 19th Century freestanding burr walnut rising top davenport, the moulded edge top decorated with carved fretwork, this section rises up from the desk which shows more intricate carved fret work which lifts over to reveal various compartments, including two lift up lids revealing pen trays, the shaped top having a hinged lift up lid which when folded over reveals two small mahogany lined drawers, below this you have a pull out writing slope which lifts up, this has a green leather writing surface decorated with blind and gold tooling, to the right of the writing slope are compartments for a pen tray and ink well. One side of the desk has four mahogany lined drawers with wooden turned knobs and four faux drawers on the other side, panelled front and back with lovely figured burr walnut, the front of the desk having wonderfully shaped and carved supports, standing on ceramic castors. This piece has a lovely rich walnut colour and is in fabulous condition. Circa 1860.
