1900 - 1920
Description

A lovely quality mahogany kneehole desk .

With fine oak lined drawers with beaded windows edges.

The green leather top with gilt embossed decoration with a leaf carved edge.

The generous sized kneehole section which allows plenty of leg space with carved corners.

Resting on well carved cabriole legs with carved Gadrooned moulding.

Retaining the original label by

P.E GANE Ltd

HOUSE FURNISHERS, COLLEGE GREEN BRISTOL.

P.E GANE ltd (1909 - 1954) , were cabinet makers who became associated with producing quality Arts & Crafts & Arts Nouveau furniture.

Philip Enders GANE became sole proprietor of Trapnell & GANE cabinet makers in 1909 & took the opportunity to not only change its name to his own , but also to move away from the more traditional commissions from Royalty and the establishment, & explore new developments in Arts & crafts & Art Nouveau design.

In the 1930’s the firm successfully collaborated with Marcel Breuer , the modernist. Philips two sons, Leslie & Crofton joined the firm & took over when their father died in 1933. World War II took its toll when the firms premises were largely destroyed in 1940 by enemy action.

Unfortunately the company never really recovered from the war & the company went into voluntary liquidation in 1954

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
