Description

Rare Thomas Shirley & Co., Clyde Pottery, Scotland, c. 1845. Printed with a titled scene of ‘Fougaballagh’, the race horse, in a parkland setting, with his jockey, owner and stable lad. Within a blue chequered border.

The reverse with blue printed factory mark, ‘T.S. & Co.’

Diameter – 26 cm, 10 1/4”.

Condition – Excellent. No restoration.

Fougaballagh or Faugh-a-Ballagh was the winner of many races, most notably, the 1844 St Leger. It was ridden by H Bell and owned by Mr E H Irwin and sired by Sir Hercules.
