Description

Artist: Walter J. Hall. (1866-1947).

Title: "The Building of the Ship, Rye". (Situated by the Rock Chanel). Rye Castle in the background. Ship Builders; Possibly George and Thomas Smith or Phillips.

Signed and dated 1924. Oil on canvas.

Extensively inscribed on the reverse of the stretcher by the artist with the title, date 1924 and artist's name.

Size: 20"x 24". Framed size: 26 1/4"x 30 1/4".

In very good ready to hang condition. Free UK delivery.

Walter Hall was predominantly a landscape and coastal painter, but also did some portraits.

He was interested in recording the coastal industries of the time and especially the ship building industries. He was born in Lancashire and for a time lived in Bury, Lancashire.
