Frequently Asked Questions

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hand-cut dovetail joints secure the nine drawers, which have mahogany linings and circular brass drop handles. The desk measures 75 cm high, 121 cm wide, and 69 cm deep, offering a practical writing and storage surface. Suitable for use in a home study, library, or traditional office setting, the freestanding piece provides ample workspace and organised storage. The timeless configuration allows placement against a wall or centrally within a room, accommodating daily correspondence and computer tasks while complementing period or classic interior schemes.

FAQs

A Victorian pedestal desk consists of a flat writing surface supported by two vertical pedestals containing stacked drawers, creating an open central space for seating.

These desks were commonly constructed from solid mahogany, walnut, or oak, often incorporating decorative satinwood inlay, brass ring handles, and dovetail jointed drawers.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, cast brass hardware, period locks, and balanced proportions consistent with nineteenth-century cabinetmaking techniques.

Position the desk centrally in a home office or library, pairing it with contemporary task lighting, clean-lined artwork, and a structured leather chair.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply high-quality beeswax polish along the wood grain twice yearly while avoiding direct sunlight.
