Antique Silk Wefted Tribal Qashqai Rug, Outstanding Example, Circa 1890.

Description

Size: 7ft 9in x 4ft 11in (235 x 149cm). excluding end tassels.

Antique silk wefted tribal Qashqai rug with classic design.

Circa 1890.

The rug has three small medallions on a soft madder red ground, the four indigo blue corners each contain a sun burst design. The central medallion contains the Qashqai tribal emblem, it is surrounded by small well drawn chickens.

The field is filled with rosette flower heads and other tribal design elements.

The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and good pile, the rug is preserved in original condition with no repairs, the top end has the original flatwoven finish and the lower end retains the original long plaited tassels.

The rug is silk wefted with very fine red silk wefts giving the back a very smooth slippery feel.

Hand washed and ready for use or display display.
