This wonderful victorian howard style sofa is covered in original vintage union flags. The right arm drops down to allow for more comfort. It is a Best of British designer sofa. This sofa fronts a new designer company The Best of British Designs it is one the UK's leading suppliers of artwork, artefacts and themed bric-a-brac to the brewery, restaurant and hotel industries, with a reputation for creativity, reliability, customer focus and flexibility.

A wonderfully proportioned late Victorian drop end sofa, this delightful example from the period has to each corner tapered supports terminating on there original brass castors, the upholstery within I take to be traditionally coil sprung and overstuffed, this remains very supportive throughout and comfortable to sit at, the sofa has the expected good weight reflecting the period framing, the mechanism to the drop end operates freely and can optionally be adjusted to a number of positions

This Victorian Howard style drop arm sofa dates from 1890 and follows an English Country House design. It is upholstered in cotton fabric featuring a bold Union Jack motif in red, white, and blue, complemented by scrolled arms. The piece incorporates a drop arm mechanism on the right-hand side that operates freely and can be adjusted to various positions. The construction includes a heavy timber frame supporting coil sprung and overstuffed upholstery, raised on tapered wooden supports with original brass castors. Measuring 150 cm in width, 85 cm in depth, and 75 cm in height, the seat accommodates two people comfortably. Suitable for placement in a living room, study, or drawing room, this seating provides both firm support and relaxed lounging options. The vintage union flag covering gives the sofa a distinctive visual identity aligned with modern themed interiors or traditional spaces seeking a statement piece. The functional drop arm mechanism adds versatility for reclining or seating extra guests during social gatherings.

FAQs

A drop arm sofa features one or both arms attached to a ratcheted mechanism, allowing them to lower flat or adjust to various angles for reclining.

These sofas traditionally feature hardwood frames, sprung seats, feather cushion fillings, and heavy woven fabric upholstery such as cotton or velvet.

Authentic vintage pieces typically display brass or iron ratchets on the sides, castors on turned wooden legs, and traditional webbing beneath the seat frame.

Place the sofa as a focal point against neutral walls, pairing it with dark wood side tables and understated accessories to balance the bold graphic print.

Vacuum the upholstery gently with a soft brush attachment, keep the fabric out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, and professionally spot-clean stains.
