Miniature Mahogany Cylinder Desk

19th century
Description

Circa 1870, unusual, exhibition quality, miniature mahogany cylinder topped desk. The solid mahogany top has a moulded edge, hinged top and beneath this is a small storage area. To the front is a cylinder with well figured mahogany and 2 small carved lifting handles, and it opens to a fitted interior with pigeon holes, drawers and small turned knob handles with a felt and leather section that pulls out from the writing slide. Beneath is a configuration of 3 small mahogany drawers with the same carved handles as the top. The back is panelled and it stands on 2 enclosed plinths with a simple moulded fore-edge.
