Antique Afghan Turkmen Ensi, Door Hanging Rug, Unusual Design, Circa 1900/20.

Description

Size: 6ft 2in x 5ft 1in (188 x 155cm).

Antique Afghan Turkmen ensi of unusual all over design with excellent colour.

Circa 1900/20.

Ensi were door hangings used to cover the entrance to a yurt.

This ensi has a repeat all over design, it has superb glossy wool and excellent colour. There is an old goat hair hanging loop still attached to the top right hand corner. The ensi probably was woven in Northern Afghanistan and possibly has connections to the Beshir Turkmen.

The ensi is in excellent condition with only slight even wear and good pile.

The ensi has been hand washed and is ready for use or display, the rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
