These works are detailed line illustrations printed from copper plates, capturing classical Greek and Roman antiquities recorded during Grand Tour expeditions in the eighteenth century.

They were produced using hand-engraved copper plates pressed onto heavy handmade rag paper using monochrome iron-oxide or carbon-based inks.

Look for a visible plate mark indentation around the image perimeter, chain lines and watermarks in the laid paper, and characteristic age-related toning.
