Description

GILLOWS of LANCASTER: An excellent quality mid-19th century rosewood DAVENPORT (or Writing Desk) in lovely original condition.

The top with its gilt brass baluster gallery and beaded edge decoration, retains its original blind-tooled leather writing surface which opens to reveal the fitted interior with two small drawers and gilt brass lid support.

To the right side is the "secret" hinged pen-and-ink drawer whilst both sides have large slides. Below are four long mahogany-lined graduated drawers ('dummy' drawers to the opposite side) and it is supported on typical Gillows 'Apple' feet with original brass castors. The whole top slides forward when in use. A fabulous davenport!
