Description:
Here is a lovely antique English solid ash & green leather 4ft wide office pedestal desk, circa 1890, in excellent condition. The desk incorporates a good quality new full grain green inset leather with elegant gold tool border, which is flanked by ash banding and a thumb moulded top. If you prefer a different colour leather, we can replace it with a colour of your choice for an additional £125. The desk comprises of a top section with two fixed pedestals. There are 9 graduated working drawers to the front of the desk, all of which feature cushion fronts and original shaped brass handles on elegant geometric escutcheons. The drawer sides are ash lined and constructed with hand dovetail joints. The central drawer incorporates the original working lever lock and key. The pedestals are decorated with reeded moulding to each corner at the front and inset panels to the sides.
Condition Report:
This desk is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the desktop frame, pedestals and feet, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The desk has been professionally fitted with a top quality new green and gold tool leather inset single leather. Therefore, the leather is clean and free from any wear, damage, or stains. If you do not like the colour of the leather, we can replace it with different colour leather, for an additional £125. The top central drawer retains the original working brass lever lock and original key (the others were not constructed with locks). All drawers run smoothly and close flush to the frame. The desk sits on 8 solid brass and mug castors, which are in excellent condition. The desk is solid in joint and ready to use.
