The sliding tambour can be raised to reveal a bank of internal drawers and compartments. This desk features 36 internal compartments, along with two large drawers and 2 pullout small pen trays. Constructed with an “S” shaped design to the top section, the desk was designed to be freestanding in the centre of a room.

When the sliding tambour is lowered and secured using the original lock and key, the secret locking mechanism is activated to lock the pedestal drawers. When the sliding tambour is raised again, this deactivates the locking mechanism. The original tambour lock and key are in good working order. The central drawer retains is separate original brass working lock (with key). The desk stands on two large pedestals, which incorporate a bank of graduated sycamore lined drawers, constructed with hand dovetail joints, with a number of removable drawer divider panels. The bottom right drawer features a large open filing drawer. The drawers retain their original, oak cup handles. The drawer fronts feature a cushion front moulding. Sitting on top of each pedestal are two large pullout-writing slides, ideal for organising additional paper work around you, whilst you work. There is a solid oak fielded panel modesty board in between the two pedestals at the back of the desk. The desk dismantles into three main sections for easy storage or transportation. This desk is a classic example of a fine English roll top desk from the early Edwardian period, with a high level of detail and craftsmanship.

Condition Report:
The desk is in excellent original condition and is in working order. The desk has been polished in our workshops and therefore boasts a lovely mellow golden oak colour. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and desktop but nothing significant considering its age. The tambour retains its original barrel lock and key. There are no splits in the tambour (which again, is common in these types of desks) and runs smoothly. The desk also retains its original internal secret locking mechanism; when the roll-top is closed, it locks all the drawers except the central drawer. The central drawer retains its original working lock with key. The desk also retains all its internal drawer handles. This item is well made, solid in joint and ready to use.
