Haliden Oriental Carpets has dated this piece to the 1850s.
The carpet belonged to Tory politician, Rab Butler* and graced the floor of his office at Spencer’s.
It has, however been sympathetically restored and is now clean and floor ready.
Butler held several junior posts for Neville Chamberlain and later, was made minister for education under Winston Churchill then, in 1957, he became Chancellor, then deputy Prime Minister.
