Gillows of Lancaster: Mahogany Davenport

Description

GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a lovely quality and pretty early/mid 19th century mahogany DAVENPORT (or writing desk) in good original order.

Of slightly smaller size than usual, this attractive example features the original brass gallery; good gilt-tooled leather writing surface; large slides to both sides; four mahogany-lined drawers to the right-hand side (dummies opposite); a fitted interior with 3 satinwood veneered small drawers; pen-and-ink drawer etc., and it is raised on typical Gillows "apple-shaped" feet with castors.

Very good condition and of pleasing colour. 35ins high; 19ins wide; 21ins deep (89 x 48 x 53cms).

***Provenance: ex Thoresby Hall, Newark Notts and Sotheby's Estate Sale 31st May to 2nd June 1989.
