Description:
Here is an example of a fine quality antique English 5ft oak and leather carved partner’s desk, circa 1860, in good condition. The desk incorporates top quality new full grain green inset leather with elegant gold tooling, which is bordered by oak banding and a thumb moulded top. If you prefer different colour leather, we can replace it with a colour of your choice for an additional £300.
There are 9 graduated working drawers to one side. To the back of the desk, there are a further three working drawers and below, there are two large working fielded panel cupboards, with hinged doors. These cupboards make ideal storage compartments for files. All drawers are mahogany lined, feature hand dovetailing and boast quarter beading (a sign of quality). They also retain their original mahogany turned knobs. All the drawers and cupboard doors feature their original working brass lever locks and keys.
The pedestals sit on their original moulded plinths and castors, allowing the desk to be moved. The desk is freestanding which means it can be situated in the centre of the room. The pedestals can also be rotated to allow you to either have all drawers on one side, or have a combination of one cupboard and a set of drawers each side.
Condition Report:
This desk is in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the desktop frame, pedestals and plinths but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The desk incorporates a top quality new full grain green leather, which is in good condition and does not have any scratches, rips or stains on it. If you prefer a different colour leather, we can replace it with a colour of your choice for an additional £300. Nominal old use marks to the insides of the drawers, with ink stains visible in some drawers. All drawers run smoothly and close flush to the frame. All drawers and cupboards feature the original working brass lever locks and keys. This desk is solid in joint and ready to use.
