Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Edwardian mahogany and leather inlaid cylinder desk, circa 1900, in good condition. The top section features a moulded gallery, with a lovely ribbed mahogany sliding tambour below, incorporating the original turned knobs. The tambour retains the original working brass lever lock and key. The frame of the desk is adorned with reeded mouldings; this is visible on the edge of the desktop and the pedestals below which are also finished with decorative spandrels in between the pedestals. The pedestals incorporate graduated drawers, decorated with further reeded detail and constructed with hand-dovetailed joints using oak drawer linings. The drawers retain their original brass handles and back plates, including the original brass lever with working key. The pedestals terminated on moulded plinths, with the original castors below. The desk dismantles into two sections for easy transport and access into the home.

The cylinder tambour slides open to reveal nine pigeonholes (incorporating a large central pigeon hole) with a row four internal hand-dovetailed mahogany lined drawers below. The desk features a pullout-writing base, which increases the writing space available. There are three elegant gold-tooled inset green leathers to the writing surface.

Condition Report:
The desk is in good condition. Some nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The sliding tambour is in good condition, with no damage and runs smoothly. There are no ink or water stains on the top of the desktop (which is common on these desks). The leather writing surfaces are in good condition and free from any marks, stains or wear and tear. The cylinder roll-top opens freely. The desk pedestals boast hand-dovetailed oak lined drawers and its original external brass handles and escutcheons.
