ANTIQUE #SA480008

Oak Desk Bureau On Original Stand, Circa 1640

£1,800    $2,203    €2,143
Rare oak two-part desk, the top section with a sloping lid with iron butterfly hinges enclosing a fitted interior, over a base with a single cock-beaded drawer above a shaped apron and raised on elegant turned legs united by stretchers.

This design developed from the table top desks of the earlier period and were a forerunner of the more substantial bureaux with their integrated row of drawers below the desk section.

It is very unusual to find these desks on their original stands, virtually all examples being the simple table-top variety which have been married to later stands or tables.

In untouched original condition with an excellent colour and surface finish.

Height: 37.25 inches; 94.5 cms.

Width across top of base: 27 inches, 69 cms.

Depth across top of base: 22.5 inches; 57 cms.
