Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
It has a beautifully turned gallery with a writing slope and the early / original tooled leather writing insert. The interior comprises of two small drawers and two pigeon holes and key with working lock. There are faux drawers down one side and on the opposite side is a small hinged stationary drawer, pull out writing slide with tooled leather and four graduating oak lined drawers with turned handles. This splendid piece stands on unusual turned feet with castors and has been finished all the way round so may be placed in the centre of the room if so desired. This charming desk also has the usual old repairs consistent with age and use, giving great character and authenticity. The rosewood has aged to a rich shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
