Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Vienna bronzes gained widespread popularity during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, produced primarily in Austria by foundries such as Franz Xavier Bergman. These pieces were famous for depicting exotic Orientalist figures, animals, and narrative genre scenes created for European collectors.

Cold-painted bronzes are cast using traditional lost-wax methods and then finished with several coats of oil or lacquer-based enamel paint applied after casting without firing. This technique allowed artisans to achieve vivid polychrome surface colours and intricate surface details.

Authentic pieces frequently bear the Bergman foundry seal, often represented by an uppercase B inside an urn or vase shape, along with cast model numbers. Original cold-painted bronzes also exhibit age-appropriate paint wear, heavy cast weight, and exceptionally detailed chasing.

A bronze sculpture of this scale serves as an ideal accent object placed upon a wooden bookshelf, a writing desk, or inside a glass curio cabinet. Position the figure alongside leather-bound books, brass instruments, or dark timber joinery to complement its classical aesthetic.

Dust the figure gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to clean recessed areas without abrading the delicate paint layer. Avoid applying liquid solvents, chemical cleansers, or heavy waxes, as these will strip or discolour the original cold-applied enamel.
