John Howkins Antiques has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The tambour front opens to a busy interior consisting of 12 pigeon holes and 3 drawers with 2 swivel trays for ink wells and stationary paraphernalia. The base with 2 pull out slides and 9 mahogany lined and graduated drawers, each retaining the original good quality brass handles. The locking system on this desk is quite unusual in so far as the base drawers remain locked until the tambour is opened but 3 drawers on the right hand side have further locking facilities with the original working locks and key. The whole stands on plinth bases with hidden castors and is in very good condition and ready for the home or office and bearing the label "Maple & Co. London, Paris, Buenos Aires and by Royal Appointment."
