This is a superb quality antique Edwardian ladies mahogany and leather inlaid cylinder desk, circa 1900, in good original condition. The desk features a pretty baluster shaped open fretwork gallery. To the front of the desk, the sliding cylindrical roll-top features stunning satinwood cross banding, flanked by geometric boxwood inlay. Similar geometric boxwood inlay can also be seen on the sides and legs of the desk. The cylinder retains the original working brass lever lock and key.

The cylinder slides open to reveal nine pigeonholes (incorporating two letter trays) and four internal hand-dovetailed drawers. The desk boasts its original inset red leather and gold-tooled pullout writing base, which increases the writing space available. The pullout-writing base features the original brass knobs; likewise, the cylinder and external drawer fronts feature the original brass knobs and handles. Below, there is a single mahogany-lined hand-dovetailed drawer, which features also features its original bras working lever lock and key. The desk incorporates a straight frieze and is raised on four tapering legs, which incorporate boxwood string inlay and terminate on square brass plates and the original brown mug castors. It is rare to see a cylindrical desk displaying such quality in good working original condition.

Condition Report:
The desk is in good original working condition. Some nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no missing drawers or compartments to the interior. There are no ink or water stains on the top of the desktop (which is common on these desks). It also boasts the original leather, which is rare to see. There are old use marks to the leather but nothing significant considering it’s original. The desk boasts hand-dovetailed mahogany lined drawers and its original external brass knobs and handles. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination.
