Magnificent Pair of Large-scale C19th French Louis Xvi Style Ormolu Bronze Fireplace 'Chenets' Cast as Rampant Lions .

Description

Magnificent pair of large-scale C19th French Louis XVI style ormolu bronze fireplace 'chenets' , cast as rampant lions , complete with detachable cast-iron and steel andirons and fire-basket.

Superb quality cast ormolu bronze rampant or 'guardant' regal lions , with excellent detail and finish . The snarling , open-mouthed beasts with raised front paws upon a shield , together with shell and armorial decoration . Finished as three-quarter dimension bodies with hand-finished and chiselled details. Designed on rococo scrolling bases and a shaped squared foot.

Supported upon cast-iron rear struts which slot into the cast andirons also with finial decoration. The slatted fire-basket with 'navette' shaped profile , fitting over the return ends of the andirons.

Great decorative presence , combining with an elegant and practical fire-place setting.
