A very fine and unusual Bijar carpet, tightly woven with very good dyes.
The Piece resembles a giant Kilim, the medallion seeming to float on the open mid blue field. The large cockerel’s in the corners are a whimsical and most attractive feature of this funky old carpet. This one has very even low pile, showing spots of foundation in places.
The side cords are replaced and there are a few small moth holes expertly rewoven.
Woven on wool, it is still a heavy and substantial item, clean and floor ready. It would make and ideal dining room carpet for an old country house.
Circa 1870.
